In Indapur—a land blessed and sanctified by the footsteps of Malojiraje Bhosle, the grandfather of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj—Dr. Sandesh Shah has kept the lamp of selfless service burning for several decades. He has given medical service the form of divine worship and has become the anchor of trust for thousands of families.
Today, while extending wishes on his birthday, countless feelings of respect, gratitude, and affection gather in the heart.
Through homeopathy, he has spent his entire life not just treating patients with medicine, but giving them a renewed hope to live. While soothing the pain of thousands through numerous diagnostic and treatment camps, he never craved fame; instead, he treated social service as his ultimate religion.
The stay of Santshreshtha Tukaram Maharaj’s Palkhi procession in Indapur is a living festival of serving the Warkaris (pilgrims). The free homeopathic diagnosis and treatment camps he has organized for thousands of Warkaris for over three decades are not just medical services, but a river of humanity flowing into the continuous stream of devotion to Lord Vitthal. While supporting the tired feet of the Warkaris, the satisfaction on their faces has always been the truest reward for Doctor's service.
He has selflessly extended a helping hand to poor, needy, destitute, and desperate patients. The doors of his clinic are not just open for patients; they are open for everyone seeking hope, trust, and humanity.
Throughout this entire journey, standing shoulder to shoulder with him was the late Dr. Radhika Shah, whose companionship was the greatest strength of his life. Her contribution was invaluable on every path of social service, in every initiative, and behind every success.
Destiny snatched away this shadow midway, a pain that cannot be contained in words. Every sensitive mind is aware of how massive this void is in his life's journey. Yet, carrying a mountain of grief in his heart without abandoning the path of social service, Dr. Sandesh Shah has shown the courage to keep the torch of his work burning. This is the true stature of his personality. Just as a lamp that refuses to be blown out by the storm continues to shed light, his journey of service continues uninterrupted today.
Journalism is another vital and inspiring facet of Dr. Sandesh Shah's personality. Managing time out of his busy medical practice, he practiced journalism for over two decades through the daily newspaper *Dainik Sakal*. Keeping an accurate track of societal developments, giving voice to the issues of rural areas, and expressing the emotions of the common man through his pen, he gave journalism the form of social commitment.
Dr. Shah, who could read the pulse of patients as a doctor, could also sense the heartbeat of society as a journalist. Therefore, his news reports did not just contain words; they reflected the hopes, aspirations, pain, and questions of the common people. He nurtured journalism with the same dedication, honesty, and spirit of public good as his medical service; which is why he is not just a successful doctor, but a sensitive journalist
His tenure as the President of the Rotary Club of Indapur was also remarkable. Ever since the country gained independence, villages like Gokhali, Tarangwadi, and Vitthalwadi in the taluka had to rely on water tankers during the summer. Because of his work in deepening and widening the local streams (nullahs), the drinking water scarcity in these villages was permanently resolved. Impressed by this, the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in a public speech, referred to Dr. Sandesh Shah as a **"Social Doctor"** and honored his work.
By channeling all the well-meaning energies through the Rotary Club for social work, he created history by winning a total of 16 awards for the Indapur Club.
Even as his wife, Dr. Radhika Shah, breathed her last, he maintained his sense of social responsibility. Considering organ donation as the highest form of charity, he donated both her eyes, both kidneys, heart, and liver, giving a new lease of life to five individuals. He saw his wife living on through them.
This decision of his is highly exemplary and full of immense courage. Such individuals are extremely rare in society. Therefore, no amount of praise for his work is ever enough
