 Indapur: Ganpati is worshiped first of all in all kinds of good deeds.  Ganapati, the son of Shiva-Parvati, is considered to be the deity of knowledge.
 Ganeshotsav is celebrated on the day when Lord Shiva brought an elephant face to Ganapati and brought him back to life.  That day is called Ganesh Chaturthi.  This festival which lasts for 11 days ends after the immersion of Ganapati on Anant Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day of Bhadrapad month (usually in August, September).
 During this period, Aarti is said before him every morning and evening.  Modak prasad is offered.  After eleven days, that is, Anant Chaturthi, the idol is immersed in a river or lake.
